Indigo Dyeing @ Wally Farms
Wally Farms is a farming initiative & an experimental farming incubator. Fostering a collective of passionate farmers who are empowered to develop sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices. They believe in the power of technology and actionable steps to protect our climate. The farm & forest is located on the native homelands of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican People.
This class is a deep dive all about dyeing with Organic Indigo. A deep blue pigment derived from a green shrub plant. We will be using ‘Indigofera’ or Mexican Indigo to create an organic bath & our home grown Japanese Indigo in fresh leaf form.
We will go through the entire process, from growing the leaves to dyeing your own unique fabric pieces. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dyer, this workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the art of natural dyeing in a serene farm setting.
Flower Dye on Silk @ KADO FARM
Pick your own flowers and learn how to create imprints on silk using fresh flowers from Kado farm. We will learn the basic principles of natural dyeing and each participant will create their own silk scarf using the simple steam bath technique with a variety of different flowers :)
Forage for Color - Summer Edition
Walk our land in the SUMMER to collect and learn about local Hudson Valley plant material to use as a pigment. We will responsibly forage raspberry leaves, tree bark, wild flowers, sumac and more!
Bring home knowledge of the plants around you and naturally dye a silk and cotton scarf in our barn studio just outside of Hudson, NY.

We will walk the land, collect invasive and native plants to create prints of silk scarves using the eco printing method. Learn the basics of natural dyeing in this afternoon session. Enjoy being surrounded by the lush Hudson Valley nature and learn a new skill.
Organic Indigo 101
This class is all about dyeing with Organic Indigo. A deep blue pigment derived from a green shrub plant, we will be using ‘Indigofera’ or Mexican Indigo. Learn how to make the bath with all naturally derived materials and create a full range of brilliant blue tones.
We will practice the art of shibori ( aka tie dye) to create patterns on cloth using string and other binding materials. Bring a natural fiber garment from your closet to dye on the day of the class and leave with a new indigo creation & knowlegde to recreate the process at home.
Natural Dye Deep Dive
Learn the ancient art of natural dyeing with Hannah Ross from start to finish. We will use locally grown and foraged materials as well as ethically sourced exotic dye material. We will work from an open air barn studio space on our land just next to the natural dye garden. Creates 2 scarves, cotton and silk as well as create a swatch book full of recipes to re create at home.
Forage for Color - Spring Edition
Walk our land in the SPRING to collect and learn about local Hudson Valley plant material to use as a pigment. We will responsibly forage mugwort, dandelions, nettle, wild mustard and more!
Bring home knowledge of the plants around you and naturally dye a silk and cotton scarf in our barn studio just outside of Hudson, NY.
