Workshop hosted inside the Hanoux Lab @ True North.
Learn the ancient art of natural dyeing with Hannah Ross from start to finish. We will use locally grown and foraged materials as well as ethically sourced exotic dye material. All materials included, we will work from an open air barn studio space 15 minutes from downtown Hudson, NY.
We will cover all aspects of the natural dyeing process, including:
How to setup your space
Washing (scouring) your fabrics
The correct mordant for different fabric types - silk, wool, cotton, and hemp
How to use the WOF (Weight of Fiber) percentage system
PH shifters and color modifiers
Where to source your dye material, local and from ethical sources
How to create a full spectrum of color from only 6 dye materials
You will leave this class with:
A swatch ring of 24 colors and recipes
PDF of step by step instructions
Full confidence to naturally dye on your own
1 naturally dyed garment ( you must bring to class)
OR 1/2 yard of cottton fabric (I will provide) dyed a color of your choice
