Organic Indigo 101

  • Conscious Color Dye Lab 87 Sheldon Lane Craryville, NY, 12521 United States (map)

This class is a deep dive all about dyeing with Organic Indigo. A deep blue pigment derived from a green shrub plant, we will be using ‘Indigofera’ or Mexican Indigo. We will learn how to make the indigo bath together and create swatches of silk and cotton dyed different shades of blue. Everyone will learn the basics of shibori (tie dye) methods to create patterns on cloth using string.

Each student will be encouraged to bring 1 natural fiber garment from their wardrobe to dye in the bath. T shirts will be provided for those that don’t  bring a garment. Our homegrown Indigo will also be flourishing in the garden and we will learn how we started the seedlings this year. This is our 3rd year cultivating Indigo on our farm.

** Please reach out if funds are tight, we have 2 scholarships available to off set the cost for BIPOC folks.
