Natural Dye Deep Dive

Learn the entire process of natural dyeing from start to finish at our barn studio and leave confident to start your own practice.

Delicious plant based food will be provided during our outdoor 6 hour deep dive workshop. We will use locally grown and foraged materials as well as ethically sourced exotic plants from Oaxaca, Mexico to create 24 different color and pattern recipes.

We will cover all aspects of the natural dyeing process, including:

  • How to setup your space

  • Washing (scouring) your fabrics

  • The correct mordant for different fabric types - silk, wool, cotton, and hemp

  • How to use the WOF (Weight of Fiber) percentage system to re create colors

  • PH shifters and color modifiers

  • Where to source your dye material, local and from ethical sources

  • How to create a full spectrum of color from only 6 dye materials

    You will leave this class with:

  • A swatch ring of 24 colors and recipes !

  • PDF of step by step instructions on all fabric types

  • Full confidence to naturally dye on your own

  • 1 naturally dyed silk scarf dyed a colorful wash of color

  • 1 naturally dyed cotton scarf, we will use the eco printing method
